Love at First Bite - Valentine's Day at Akira Back

Ah, February is here and for the lovebirds out there, this month most likely will be one that the ladies look forward to (maybe not so much the guys, because they'll be digging deep in their pockets to prepare for 'that' date haha). Valentine's Day on 14th February is not necessarily just a day for the couples to gloat about their relationship! Showing your love to your special one (girl/boyfriend, spuose, partner, husband/wife, parents, etc) should be an everyday habit, incorporated in your every deeds, words and acts. It certainly doesn't hurt to treat your significant other to a delightful, mouth-gasmic experience at Akira Back Jakarta.

The 1st Course that melted my heart

Yes, I've been back in Jakarta the past week to spend the Chinese New Year with my family. So the past week has been a whirlwind fun flurry of activities, juggling work, dinner dates, catching up with friends and families, some shopping for supplies to bring back to Sydney, and of course, a little too much indulging in the local food that I missed and can't find in Australia.

Many things have changed since I left 7 months ago, but some things remain, like Jakarta's nightmarish traffic jam and Akira Back's status as one of my favourite restaurants. It is always a delight coming back here, not only because the venue itself offers a lovely view of Jakarta downtown, but also because Chef Andri Dinoysius never fails to come up with creative and amazing dishes, that's the style of founder Chef Akira Back. Andri is usually busy globe trotting to supervise Chef Akira's new restaurants, so if you happen to see him around, do say hi! :)

This year's Valentine, Akira Back Jakarta will treat us to a 7 course set menu, featuring mainly freshly flown, prized and premium grade seafood, escalating to crescendo with a wagyu dish as the highlight, ending with a sweet note of a lovey dovey dessert.

The whole experience starts with a creamy delight of this Uni & Caviar Parfait, a rather addictive combo of sweet and umami that's just enough to get you hooked for more. And then comes the signature, everyone's all-time favourite Tuna Pizza. The Tuna Pizza is as good as ever, with perfect crispy super thin crust, and truffle annointed salmon.

The treat did not stop there, though. There's Hokkaido Scallop, Nova Scotia Lobster, Greenland Halibut, and Wagyu Striploin in line next. If I must choose, I'd say the Uni & Caviar Parfait, as well as the Seared Halibut with barley risotto would be my personal favourites. But it's only by a very narrow margin because almost literally everything is my favourite.

And lastly, the dessert (of course!), think that rose is just for a display of love and affection? Why not taste it as well? Don't squirm in your seat just yet, because the rose & raspberry panna cotta is so delish, you'll wish it comes in bigger serving. The Valrhona Opalys ice cream on the side with beet sponge on the side completed the whole ensemble into a pretty plated dessert.

Would I reckon this entire experience is worth the price? I certainly do! The servings are just nice - may be small to some - but it allows you to sample 7 different, immaculately prepped dishes, without making you feel like throwing up at the end of 4th course. So ladies, you need not fret that your tummy will pop out in that nice tight dress, and guys, you could easily have a glass or two of drinks after dinner.

Tables are selling fast, so I strongly recommend you to secure yours now! Full details of the menu could be found on Akira Back Indonesia's website or social media
