Worth Checking In: Studio M

You know what? This post brazenly deviates from my blog's sole mission: food. But heck! I'd love to share with you a place you might consider staying at the next time you visit the Lion City (no, the hotel didn't pay me to write this). This post is not a review and it's just for your reference, since I took quite decent photos anyway, so it would be such a waste if I didn't share it with everyone. =)

Being an Indonesian, I'm used to visit hotels with massive and lavishly decorated lobbies. So the first time I stepped in Studio M Hotel Singapore, a whiff of masculine scent inside immediately gave away this hotel's personality: no-frills business hotel, got all the basics right and clear-cut, just like a man.

The Hotel might not look like much from the lobby, the perfunctory space was designed with pastel colours and modern furniture. What would catch anyone's attention was the light-cum-centerpiece art installed hanging above the front desk. It's massive and gives the lobby an edge, without which, it would feel so dull.

So, what do you personally look for when staying in an hotel? For sure, you can expect the following at Studio M Hotel Singapore:

- Rooms
I fell in love with the duplex concept for all of the rooms. To access the mezza nine level, you have to walk up the staircase which escalates up to the desk level then bends perpendicularly up a few flights of stairs and you'll find your fleecy bed!

- Location
Nanson Road is situated near the Quays (Robertson Quay, Clarke quay & Boat Quay), that are famous for the bustling nightlife and F&B scenes. No bus stop was within sight, but you get the essentials within short walking distance. I didn't get to explore much around the hotel, because of my tight schedule during this vvisit, but within 5 minutes' walking distance is a small cluster of cafes & pubs which came alive at nights. There's also a few shopping precincts such as Robertson Walk and UE Square further down the road. You just can't avoid walking in Singapore.

- Facilities
Swimming pool, alfresco restaurant ta.ke with nice pool view and there's illy Cafe at the lobby for quick caffeine shots, gym with basic equipments and free in-room Wi-Fi.

- Price
Starts from SGD 165/night. It was about SGD 220 during my visit, price includes breakfast for 2 pax.

Plus: Floor to ceiling windows; It is bright enough during daytime, so you can do your part to save the electricity.

Minus: The shower and toilet are separated by entrance corridor, so you can't deal with your 'business' at one go. It's not a problem when you're staying alone, but if there's someone else in the room, it gets really tricky.
