If I were to draw a map of Jakarta and locate the various locations of specialty coffee places, I am almost certain that the dots will be tipped heavily in the central and south area. There are only a handful that can be found in other parts of the city (west, north and east). But it seems that the disparity is slowly being balanced out by the arrival of new generation of hipster or non-mainstream specialty coffee places. Progress has been slow, the past few years, but 2015 sees major improvements, with many new players springing up, or existing ones are expanding their businesses at various spots in town. Just to name one: Crematology Coffee Roaster, which is one of the early generations of specialty coffee places in Jakarta.
After roughly 2 years brewing its magic in Senopati, South Jakarta, Crematology recently (late April 2015) opened its doors to the residents in West Jakarta, or, as they call the area, the 'Wild Wild West'. Well, to be honest, I'm not very familiar with West Jakarta either, despite the fact that my home's postal code actually falls within the sub-province. As my university was located in West Jakarta, somehow this area always conjures an image of terrible gridlocked streets in its worst possible state. So, after experiencing that for almost 4 years when I was in college, West Jakarta hardly feels like a place I'd go unless I really really have no other choice...LOL
Despite my unreasonable phobia, I actually found myself going there more often than I'd imagined I would, because of new hipster places that open up there, one of my favourite, being The Fctry Bistro & Bar. And now, Crematology too, opens its second store in Puri Indah, within a convenient walking distance from The Fctry. I guess I would seriously come to this area even more often in the future!

Crematology's second and larger store is located on the Ground Floor of PX Pavilion at St. Moritz, Puri Indah. It's store comprises 2 story, accessible through the 2 entrances located on each of the floors. It's pretty much like Crematology in Senopati, with a lot of wooden elements for its decor and furnishings, concrete walls and industrial-feeling cement floors. It's prime location, at the lobby of PX Pavilion, means the place has the luxury of having tall windows. This is a very insta-genic location of you want to shoot moody / grunge style / hypebeast kind of photos (calling out to all instagrammers out there!!).
The menu here is going to be different than that in Senopati, but there will be familiar items, such as: espresso-based coffee, all day breakfast items, as well as a handful of other main and side dishes, pancakes, buttermilk waffles.
Now, there's a new addition to the food menu: Dopenuts! The first time I tried this hipster species of donuts was at The Fctry sometime ago. Ever since then I couldn't forget its taste...If you were to ask me what's the best donut in town, it's gotta be Dopenuts. Period. Why am I nuts about these Dopenuts? Because its dough, is quite chewy, but soft at the same time, and with hipster fillings and toppings like Creme Brulle with vanilla curd filling, Bali Vanilla Glaze, Death by Guanaja 70% Valrhona, Bannoffee, House Churned PB & Berries Jam, and I could go on and on, but typing those down without eating them at the same time, is a real torture! LOL.
What's really different at Crema in Puri versus its older 'bro' in Senopati, is that Puri will have a slow 'bar', a space dedicated for slower, un-mechanized process of coffee brewing. So this is good news for you hipster coffee connoisseurs who are seeking pour-overs and such.
So, hurry come to Crematology at PX Pavilion, while they're still having the Buy 1 Get 1 for Coffee or Free Upsize promo! Psst...I got an insider tip that they're going to start Buy Coffee get Dopenuts promo, I'm not sure when, but just come back often to check, aye ;)
