Who says you are not allowed to eat inside an art gallery? That means you haven't been to the right gallery. And it is not just the food that is edible, this place even serves edible art to the guests, such as this beautiful piece...
Negev Art Gallery and Bar, is yet another unique and fine concept by Mount Scopus Group, a predecessor the Amber Chocolate Bar that was recently open in late December 2014. The word Negev itself has a Hebrew origin, which refers to 'dry' (adj.), and in the Biblical use, the word is used to point the direction south. Incorporating the name's literal translation, Negev has an interior that is dominated with sand-based and sand-coloured elements, such as the walls and the wall art relief.

At the heart of Negev rests the root of a hundred year old tree, a symbol of natural beauty and life longevity that warms the entire room. From that heart sprouts a myriad of art pieces, paintings and sculptures that adorn every corner of our elegantly designed venue, exemplified by the famous "Leopard" sculpture from renowned artist Nyoman Nuarta. Whether you understand art, or not, you certainly cannot fail to appreciate the beauty covering every inch of Negev.
Dining at Negev is best enjoyed when you're not in a rush, but as it is located in an office building complex, you'd still find office executives having lunch here. I came after 2PM, so the lunch time crowd had (fortunately) dissipated.
The menu here is different for lunch and dinner, with several selected overlapping dishes for both meal times. But in general, the dishes are western, and occasionally infused with some Asian & Ceylon elements.
It was lunch time, but we would not say no to a sphere or a packet of booze or two ;) The Negev Singapore Sling came in the most unusual form, spheres that pops at the slight pressure. As for the Dracula's Blood, well, it comes looking like a packet of blood transfusion and it does look like blood, but certainly does not taste like one. Dare to try it? ;)
Negev Singapore Sling IDR 95,000 |

Fresh Goat Cheese Salad (Dinner only)
Roasted vegetable salad served on savoury tartlet with lentil dressing and topped with edible flowers, which I'm guessing are morning glory and of course a generous chunk of fresh goat cheese.
Fresh Goat Cheese Salad IDR 120,000 |
Tuna Cutlets (Lunch & Dinner)
Ceylonese inspired tuna and potato dumplings, served with turmeric mayonnaise and deep fried rice noodles. Be prepared for a surprise when eating this 'black balls', because they are packed with a spicy punch! A very unique appetizer, crispy outside, fragrant herbed minced tuna at the core.
Tuna Cutlets IDR 70.000 |
Norwegian Salmon (Dinner only)
Pan-seared Norwegian Salmon, served with cherry tomato, green Kenyan beans, tzatziki sauce, extra virgin olive oil and crispy pasta tuile.
Norwegian Salmon IDR 190,000 |
Australian Rib Eye Shio Koji (Dinner only)
Mildly salty and sweet shio-koji, rubbed on premium quality Australian rib eye, served with shimeji mushrooms, spring onions and sauteed potato. This dish was the superstar of our lunch, we all enjoyed the perfectly marinated, juicy & tender rib eye slices.
Australian Rib Eye Shio Koji IDR 235,000 |
The Finale Dessert
Negev's gastronomical and artistic interpretation of dessert, personally drafted by the Chef, live on your table. Lucky us, Corporate Chef of Mount Scopus, Ivan Tarrago was there to personally craft the Finale Dessert for us that noon. It was quite intimidating at first, watching him approaching our table with his 'entourage', each carrying different elements of the dessert, but most importantly, the white food grade rubber mat that will be the base of the dessert installation.
Different elements of the Finale Dessert: macarons, gelatin, jelly, nuts, cubed cakes, fresh fruits, truffles, cream, syrup, yoghurt, almond tuile, fresh edible flowers |
edible morning glory |
It was not a quick process, but we enjoyed watching every minute of it, and here's a short video that I've edited for your watching pleasure.
Recorded & edited by: Ellyna Tjohnardi
Music: Sugar, Sugar by The Archie
the Finale Dessert IDR 245,000 (for 2 persons) | +IDR 100k /additional person | +IDR 50k /additional child |
As you could see, food and drinks at Negev are not only edible and tasty, but they're also pleasing to the eyes, occasionally interspersed with theatrical presentation (the Finale Dessert). If you're looking for a place to impress a date, colleagues or business partners, Negev will certainly pass the task with flying colours.
