I almost didn't feel like sharing about this place simply from fear that it will get too crowded too soon. And I can bet it will, even without this blog post. So, I've decided to hang up my selfishness and spread the words about this lovely rooftop hideaway.
Hause Rooftop Kitchen & Bar is nestled atop (6th floor) of the second tower within MD Place compound, it's not in the same building as Akira Back nor Ristorante da Valentino, but you gotta park your car at the same complex. Rooftop venues in Jakarta has been mostly high end or ultra high end concepts that they impose strict dress codes on guests who are just looking for a place to chill. There's nothing wrong with the dress code restriction, it just means that when I feel like chilling and enjoying some drinks during sunset and am not 'properly' dressed, I'd come to a place like Hause Rooftop instead.
There are several reasons why I'm in love with this lovely enclave. Firstly, it's a rooftop venue / cafe / restaurant / bar. I mean, how difficult is it to love a place that offers both indoor and outdoor spaces to chill? The outdoor space is not just concrete floor and furniture, but there's also the owner's collection of herbs and flower plants that she nurtured with her own hands. Some of these herbs and plants like the basil, mint, etc, actually would end up in your drinks and food.
Secondly, the eclectic interior, it's modern, simple, yet filled with the owner's antique and quirky paraphernalia that they collected over the years from their travels. Some of them are movable, and make great props for your instagram pictures, but please, be a courteous guest and return the stuff from where you picked it up, nothing irks me off more than inconsiderate fellow customers...

As a place to chill, you can expect a full-fledged bar with its own signature house-made cocktails...Oh, water is served complimentary here too, so you don't need to fork out a fortune just to quench your most basic need that most restaurants in Indonesia take advantage of by charging so much for just a bottle of water LOL!
The healthy-oriented menu is also another reason why I love this place, although I'm quite disappointed from the absence of dessert on the menu (other than the house-made) cakes on display. But I was told, that they are still developing the menu currently. The menu also features vegetarian friendly dishes. You can even find Burgreen's vegetarian burgers, such as the Mini Trio, triple meatless sliders that tasted just as enjoyable as the classic meaty sliders. Their Spaghetti Aglio Olio with Mushrooms & Jumbo Prawns is also recommended.
Left: French Fries seasoned with truffle oil, served with wasabi or BBQ mayo sauce IDR 45,000 Right: Cappuccino (iced) IDR 36,000 |
Barbeque Chicken Rustic Oven Baked Pizza IDR 85,000 |
(background) Kiwi Toasted Mocktail - kiwi, raspberry puree, orange juice with pink grapefruit, lychee & lime syrup IDR 60,000 |
Salted Caramel Tart (with compliments from the owner) - It's delicious and I enjoy the right balance of saltiness with the sweetness from the salted caramel. |
Ovomaltine Swiss Roll IDR 35,000 (additional Haagen Dasz ice cream +IDR 20,000) |
You see, with a lovely place like this, the possibility that is open to the owner is nearly endless, they could organize weekly brunch events or pop up organic market, or even a Kinfolk-ish communal table. It's just a matter of time before you have to make reservation way in advance in order to get your favourite spot here.
