After scoring well at its first location in Panglima Polim, Woodpecker Coffee recently has set its nest at the second location in Cilandak. And this location is special, because it's more than just a coffee shop...
I'm simply amazed by the rapid growth of so many excellent and unique coffee places in Jakarta. And from the many that I've visited, there's this one particular place that reminds me of modern Japanese 'Kinfolk'-ish style and that is Woodpecker Coffee. It's the use of neutral colours in their interior and furniture, the lean and no-frills menu, that just feels so...Japanese.feel the zen at the 'glass house' wing right next to the general store |
Unlike the first location, Woodpecker 2.0 is more spacious, shares its space with a General Store, and has a smoking area at the back of the cafe, right next to Kali Grogol. I would've loved to sit at the comfy sofa outside, because it would be nice to listen to the sound of running water while sipping my cup of macchiato. But I surrendered to the smoke fume and retired to the concrete counter where the coffee machine and food was being displayed. The concrete counter is one of the signature interior elements that Woodpecker keeps.

The General Store offers a curated selection of handmade home wares and lifestyle products, such as ceramic home wares by a local ceramic crafter and artist, as well as a handful of other items that I would've loved to purchase if only I have space at home *sigh...

Woodpecker's Waffle with assorted toppings has quite made a reputation among cafe-hoppers in Jakarta. But if you fancy something savoury, they have sandwiches too. I quite like the Banoffee topping, for my waffle, although I wish the coffee flavour would be stronger.
Waffle (Original) IDR 20,000 + Banoffee topping IDR 20,000 |
Using Morph Coffee beans, Woodpecker's coffee is considerably affordable. Its coffee beverages' price ranges between IDR 18,000 (espresso) to IDR 30,000 (latte / flat white / cappuccino), while most other places would charge at least IDR 35,000 for a cup of cappuccino. And Woodpecker always serves its drinks on a tray, with a small bottle of water as mouth cleanser. Never fear that you have to fork out a fortune just for a glass of water!
Macchiato IDR 25,000 |
I am seriously dead jealous with the folks living in Panglima Polim and Terogong areas! If any of the owners are reading this post, would you consider opening in Central Jakarta next? ;)
