Carnivores Rejoice, Shabu Ghin's Here!

Are you a shabu shabu lover? Because there's a new (it's been open for a month) shabu shabu place in town that's become my current darling place to have a warm bowl of tender, juicy & meaty soup, Shabu Ghin.

Shabu Ghin is located on the stretch of Woltermonginsidi, where there are already plenty of Korean BBQ and meat-centric restaurants. It's either they're're gonna make it of not, because competition in this area is certainly going to be stiff...So let's see if they've got something that sets them apart from the crowd...

Shabu Ghin specializes in beef shabu-shabu (the other type I mean being a general shabu-shabu offering anything from seafood to beef balls), so they charge based on which meat you choose. There are 3 kinds of tender & juicy premium beef here: Special Beef, US Premium Beef and Wagyu Beef. Each of them look like this:

Shabu Ghin offers 5 types of soup to cook with: Original Konbu, Chicken Mizutaki, Spicy Tonyu, Spicy Seafood & Sukiyaki. The one soup that stood out among the rest is the milky orange-hued Spicy Tonyu soup, made with soy milk. If you come here, I think it's only wise to try Tonyu, which is most likely not (yet) found at any other shabu shabu places. I like that the broth is milky (I always have a thing for milk, cream and its product derivatives lol!), umami and mildly spicy. I found myself sipping the rich broth even after my meat's all finished.

Usually when eating shabu shabu, I would crave for the sauces the most, you know, that sweet, slightly sour and umami brown sauce, sprinkled with sesame on it. But with the delicious tonyu soup, I wouldn't even bother with any other condiments, but the sauces are quite varied, eh!

So other than that Tonyu soup, what I like about Shabu Ghin is its better-than-decent buffet bar. Other beef all-you-can-eat shabu shabu often have great meat, but unappealing buffet bar. Shabu Ghin's Buffet Bar is not massive indeed, which in a way, helps to ensure the quality of the few dishes that it serves.

The japchae and ramen carbonara are not to be missed when you dine here. There's even this delicious gyudon stew and plain rice, from which you can make a bowl of beef rice bowl, just like 'that' Japanese fast food chain. But when you can eat just the beef, I think I'll spare the rice ;)

Right: The Ramen Carbonara - must try!

Yeah, I made this one myself, pretty decent skill huh? The soft serve is not too milky, a bit too sugary in my opinion, but I still enjoyed it anyway
Well, the 50% opening promotion is over now, but they've a good Set Menu deal too. It's quite unfortunate that my family's not really into beef shabu shabu, so, is anyone else in for a hearty shabu shabu with me? ;)
