The Café at Mayflower Executive Apartments

With no signage nor signpost at the building, no one would've thought that one of the office buildings along Sudirman is actually attached to an international 5-star serviced apartment?

The Mayflower Jakarta - Marriott Executive Apartments, may have its reasons to be low profile (one of them is limited number of suites available). But certainly for those who call Sudirman Plaza and Indofood Tower their office, they would know of its presence, because to access The Mayflower, guests could enter from the office building entrance or alternatively, from the small street right behind the complex.

For the 96 units of 1, 2 and 3 Bedroom apartments, The Mayflower has one dining outlet, named The Café. And that's where I had my lunch a few weeks ago.

Take a look at the restaurant.

The Café at The Mayflower was having lunch 'Buffet Goes Traditional' at the time of my visit. The traditional buffet offers Indonesian favourite 'Angkringan' food or food normally sold by hawkers or food peddlers, such as Baso (beefballs in noodles or rice noodles soup), Gado-gado, Sate, Gudeg, etc. This buffet is available from Monday to Friday 11.30 AM - 14.30 PM. I did not try the buffet, so I know not of the taste. Just do not expect a lavish buffet spread that you usually find in other 5-star hotels, because this one at The Café, is a much scaled-down version.

Apart from the buffet, guests could also choose from the a la carte menu, which offers soups & salads, burgers & sandwiches, grills, Asian classics, dessert, etc. What I had were all off the a la carte menu and this was what a 3 courses lunch at The Café might look like.

Appetizer
Chef's Salad - mixed julienne of tomato, bell pepper, cucumber, onion, gherkin with lettuce, broccoli, egg, cheese, chicken and beef cold cut. The topping was thousand island dressing. A guilt-free way to start the lunch, but the portion is quite generous for a lady. You can request balsamic vinaigrette for a less calories choice.

Main Course
The name does not sound as appetizing as its taste, but this grilled Baby Chicken with mixed lettuce and mushroom sauce with mashed potato is such a guilty treat. In my opinion, the serving size is enough to share for 2, but apparently the dishes served at The Cafe has been fine-tuned to suit the guests' preference, who are mostly westerners. Apologize to my vegan readers for the explicit images.

Dessert
My favourite part of the lunch: dessert! We had a traditional one, which happens to be the guests' favourite too. Banana Fritter (Pisang Goreng). It was rolled in tempura dough, fried and served sprinkled with cinnamon powder and caster sugar and 2 scoops of ice cream on the side.

Folks who slave work around Sudirman, now you know where else to head down for a decent, generous, filling and hotel standard lunch but still reasonably priced, it's at The Café at The Mayflower.
