Immigrant Jakarta, one of Jakarta's high-end restaurant/club in the heart of Jakarta, has just recently completed its makeover - part 1, and it was officially back in operation on 9th April 2014. I said part 1, because the club is still under renovation and rumour has it, will be open sometime in June. Clubbers in Jakarta, all fingers and toes crossed!
"Where deals get signed and the rumors begin?" |
2 months ago, Immigrant was a sprawling area of tables and chairs, dancefloor, and club, with little or no partition to separate the diners from the clubbers. Diners used to complain about the thumping noise and smoke, while clubbers felt awkward with other guests eating nearby. But it will no longer be the case at the new Dining Room. So do not be surprised to find it much smaller than what it used to be, as The Dining Room only takes up a fraction of the entire area, while the rest is dedicated for the club.
The restaurant is divided into smoking and non-smoking areas, if you require some privacy, request for the sofa-bench tables. Photo nerds like myself, would definitely ask for a table by the windows.
The new menu is not exactly the same as it was, but still retains some of the customers' favourites such as the Iga Bakar Bumbu Bali (Balinese barbecued ribs). I spotted some interesting items on the menu such as Saffron Pappardelle, Tea-Smoked Salmon Omelette, Herb Crusted Foie Gras from the All Day Favourites. The House Specialties are the Beef Ribs, such as the Iga Bakar. Currently, the Dessert is quite limited to only Valrhona Chocolate Fondant and the Bread & Butter Pudding, Ice Cream & Sorbet. As a dessert lover, I certainly hope more will be added soon. Of perhaps something Off The Grill (carnivores, this one's for ya!), choices of beef or lamb or chicken served with your choice of Sides and Sauces (Sauce BĂ©arnaise, Gorgonzola cream sauce, Whisky & orange barbeque sauce, Red wine sauce, Mushroom sauce, Spiced honey sauce, Green peppercorn sauce).

Boy, I have to give my kudos for the ribs! Oh, by the way, the serving is massive, at least for a girl. On the plate are 2 chunks of big US grain-fed beef ribs totalling 500gr (that's half a kilo!), served with rice, Indonesian vegetables soup and fresh greens on the sides. My knife sliced off the meat from the bones easily and I could easily tear up the meat using my spoon (no fork needed), that's to show just how tender the ribs are! Besides its tenderness, I love how well seasoned it is all the way through and the charred marinade on the surface became a seasoning of its own. Executive Chef / Co-Owner Fany Hermawan explained the meticulous and seriously time-consuming process to create such an amazing ribs. The ribs require 48 hours and several advanced cooking methods to achieve such result.
Another dish that I loved was the Margherita Pizza with tomato, basil & buffalo mozzarella toppings. The pizza dough is unlike most Italian pizzas, as it is slightly thicker and hence more chewy, but curiously still crispy. It even still tasted well (for me) at room temperature.
