AMKC Atelier is a brand new gourmet eatery & artisan pastry shop that opens in one of Jakarta's posh-est shopping mall. It's an original concept by the owners who are also the chefs here: Adhika Maxi and Karen Carlotta, hence AMKC.
For foodies in Jakarta, the two names may be familiar, because after all, these chefs are at the helm of one of the busiest kitchens in town: Union. The latter is famous for its indulgent and rich cakes, as well as good food that gets people coming back for more. So, when the married chefs open a new concept, much is of course, expected.
The monochrome interior is occasionally intermezzo-ed by the presence of warm wall illumination and paintings |
AMKC Atelier's menu are original dishes, draw its inspiration from French cuisine, but with the chefs' own twists and some local flavour influences.
The Black Truffle Choux is a jackpot, I loved it, but perhaps I'd love to add more truffle oil in it. Haha, I know, truffle oil is a faux pas in the haute cuisine world. Next the Clam Chowder soup, while the clams were fresh and odourless even to someone sensitive to seafood like myself, the soup was sadly too salty. It was just an accident I believe. The other dishes that almost got me hooked was the Hokkaido Scallop, while the scallop is the championed hero, the mashed potato quietly stole the show.
Turns out the highlight of my experience would be the dessert, both the plated and cakes off the display counter by Karen Carlotta. KC Cappuccino "Deconstructed" is a cup of indulgent dessert for coffee lovers, consisting 3 layers of coffee flavoured pannacotta / custard, crumbs and mousse. The twist is in the presence of alcohol (I suspect to be baileys), which is more than subtle in the dessert (good news for alcohol fans like me). Then, on another visit, I tried the Pavlova Cake and Es Teler Cake, both are so delightfully moist, light and creamy, with just the right level of sweet to keep me going scoop after scoop.
