There was a time when my tummy could expand so much that I could eat almost every single items displayed in the buffet spread, but I would end up getting tummy ache after coming home LOL. Today? Not so much...I'd only stick to the 'essentials' (aka the more expensive calorie-worthy food) served at the buffet. So the promise of endless servings of grilled lobsters, caviar, foie gras and grilled Kobe Beef certainly got my lips smacking in excitement!
Bengawan is the signature restaurant of Keraton at The Plaza, a Luxury Collection Hotel. It is located on the 7th floor of the hotel and private residence that's directly connected to Plaza Indonesia. The hotel's spa and swimming pool are also located on the same floor, so some part of the restaurant will have the indoor pool view.
Upon entering the restaurant, you'll be greeted firstly by the cornucopia of sweets, cakes and fruits, cheeses and assorted bread. These 3 are my personal favourite, so I'd normally start with cheese and save dessert for last.
The Boursin cheese was my favourite, so addictive! |
At the center of the restaurant, is where the cold cuts, fresh seafood, the hot grill teppan and all sorts of cold & hot appetizers, Asian and Western. If you are into fresh seafood, this is where you'll spend most of your time at, picking from the bed of fresh oysters, lobsters and prawns. I found myself hanging around this area quite a lot too, because I'd be having one serving after another, of the incredibly tender & juicy Kobe beef. cooked to order. Oh, another serving of pan-seared foie gras for me please, chef!
Walking further down, is the kebab grill and Mexican station, as well as, assorted sturia caviar and tobiko. It's a self-service station, but should you need assistance, the chefs are always around.
Lastly, a meal is incomplete without a sweet ending...
It is best to come early, right when the brunch just started to get the freshest and best pick of the produce and also to secure a good table. I personally like the u-shaped nook tables, which gives more privacy (it's ideal if you plan to seriously feast and don't want to draw too much attention on yourself).
