Tasted & Tested: Asian Wok Menu at C's Steak & Seafood

Between 16 - 29 September 2013, C's Steak and Seafood Restaurant at Grand Hyatt Jakarta, is having Asian Wok Menu promotion. Last week, I went there to visit and have a go at each of the 8 Asian-themed dishes. Want to know my verdict? Keep scrolling down =)

The name C's Steak & Seafood restaurant is derived from the endless possible words starting with the word 'C', I'll have a go and associate C's with Chinese (plenty of stir-fry and oriental items on the menu), Contemprary, Classy, Concept and Culinary.

The Location
C's is located on the 4th floor, which can be accessed from the staircases leading up to the Fountain Lounge on 3rd floor, or via the elevator (if you're not keen to climb the short flight of stairs).

The Place
The entrance, as seen in picture above, is flanked by glass-walled wine cellar that shelves an extensive collection of fine wine, as well as sophisticated vinous tools. Take a few steps inside and you enter an elegant space where there's a bar in one corner, fish tanks housing live sea creatures, open kitchens where the chefs seem so absorbed in their stirring, grilling, chopping activities. Guests can choose from various tables to sit at, facing the open kitchen so they can watch the chefs, or further away at quieter areas or even in the private rooms for maximum privacy. Based on my observation this long, I notice that not all restaurants in an hotel would have their own toilets inside, but C's do, which is very convenient for customers who are not actually staying at Hyatt and need to relieve the nature call.

The Menu
Seen on the menu are: Salad, Soup, Pasta & Risotto, Charcoal Grill Meat, Braised Meat, Seafood, Side Dishes, Wok-fries such as rice, meat, vegetables, noodles. Quite extensive, items seen are western and oriental classics, as well as C's signatures. Besides the a la carte items, customers can also opt for set menus such as the Lunch Menu Set and Carb Free Healthy Lunch (choice of Western or Chinese Set).

We began our lunch with amuse bouche on skewers (pictured above), the platter is even decorated with colourful seeds, dried goods, etc for that extra aesthetic flair. There were quail egg, tuna tataki, tomato with cheese and fried koroke (croquette).

Asian Wok Promotion (16 - 29 September 2013)
The Asian Wok menu consists of 8 items, which are a combination of mainly stir-fry dishes and typically Asian staples such as fried rice, rice noodles, tofu, noodles, etc. In general, the quality and flavours of the food we had, exceeded my expectations. I cannot help but to make the prejudice that hotels cannot do Asian dishes well (my bad!), but my assumption was shattered, most profoundly by the C's Lamb Fried Rice. This special fried rice fetches a hefty price for a good excuse: the supreme quality and generous amount of (imported) lamb (cubes) used in the fried rice.

I had a go at each of the 8 Asian Wok items and my top 3 recommendation are: the C's Lamb Fried Rice, Organic Chili Noodles with minced beef in spicy garlic-oyster sauce, and lastly the Asparagus and shredded beef in oyster sauce. That being said, everything else tasted delicious even to a tongue fed with chinese food since baby, like mine. Like the asian eating tradition, these dishes are meant to be shared and savoured with white rice, especially the dishes with strong flavours or sauces like the Spicy Tofu and Asparagus with Shredded Wagyu Beef.
